Def Jam - Def Jam is a hip-hop record label founded in 1984 by Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons. The first releases on Def Jam Recordings were 12 inch singles, released in 1984, which were LL Cool J's "I Need A Beat" and the Beastie Boys' "Rock Hard".

Island Def Jam Records - The Island Def Jam Music Group is a record label which started when Universal Music merged its two daughters, Island Records and Def Jam. The label also encompasses American Recordings, Lost Highway Records, Roadrunner Records and the pop and rock back catalog of the Mercury Records and Casablanca Records imprints.
